Perfection from Bookhou
Not long ago, I was lucky enough to win a prize from that extraordinary company Bookhou, and it arrived in the mail last week. It’s difficult to express how I feel about Bookhou’s things, but the word that comes to mind is “humbled”. Their work is just so beautifully considered, constructed from such fine materials, hand made and finished with such care and packaged so beautifully, that I simply can’t imagine these things being even the least bit better than they are.
My prizes got immediately pressed into service. My old purse was summarily ditched, and this one filled with all my money… I mean cards. Now I have a delicious feeling of anticipation every time I need to pay for something, cos I get to take out my beautiful purse…
And the little Hare Handbag was immediately put to brilliant use, carrying my tapestry as well as the little screenprinted Bookhou Cahier onto the plane with me over the weekend. I’m sure I saw longing glances from my fellow travellers eery time I reached for another strand of wool from my handbag.
Thanks so much, Arounna, for such a fantastic gift! And readers, if you don’t own anything made by Bookhou Design, I’d highly recommend that you change that state of affairs asap.
Talking of my tapestry, here it is in progress β slow, sloooow progress.
I always go through a stage of hating my tapestries, cos they take so long to make, but it’s usually worth persisting. I’m just having second thoughts about the blue background colour right now. It looks like the sky, which I think is a bit corny. I reckon I’ll unpick it and re-do in pale grey rather.

Hi Heather,
I’m so glad you had a chance to put them in use. You are so sweet and kind. Thank you for your kind words.
I’ve been meaning to do some needle point – can’t wait to see the finished product.

I admire your patience, Heather! I’ve been trying to get some embroidery projects done and am having some trouble focusing. I think I may be afraid that once I start I won’t be able to stop! I think I need a week at a mountain or beach house…Good Luck!
Jesse
Lucky you! Those are really gorgeous.
I think the tapestry looks cool – but grey would look great too. That’s why I don’t do tapestries; too much time to ponder decisions!

The bookhou purse is lovely I’m off to have a look.
The tapestry is great I enjoy doing kits, but hadn’t thought of putting my own designs on!

Heather, I’m tres jealous of your bag! I just recently found bookhou and love the look of it.
Pattern and Perspective
You must be very patient if unwilling to unpick the thread and do it again in grey. I like it now, too, but whatever makes you happy. You are so great at everything you do! Love Bookhou too!

Sorry? You were allowed to sew on an aeroplane? What – with a needle?? I’ve never been game to take one with me on an aeroplane – I’ve always assumed my needle will be confiscated for fear that I am a mad woman who might try and poke the pilot’s eyes out…
Heather Moore
@Prue – he-he, I wondered if they might stop me sewing on the plane, but thought it was worth giving a bash. Seems nobody’s too scared of a bespectacled needlewoman.
Lara Brehm
well, you are a very talented bespactacled needlewoman anyway so nobody would dare take your needle away I guess… π Bookhou make wonderful objects, I love love love the hare bag, it’s so sweet and precious!

hey heather, love your tapestry, and i’m also impressed you managed to stitch on a plane without fear of being unarmed by a couple of trolly dollies :)…i really like that pale blue, but understand what you mean about it being too sky-like. could you leave that neat little rectangle in and fill the rest in pale grey? then there’s an unexpected shot of colour which makes for an interesting composition…ha! like i’m some tapestry expert!
strikk handknits
ah – the first time i saw the tapestry was at the book meet – glad to see its progress – although you sure you want to unpick? and thank you, someone recognised me at a craft fair here in london from your blog feature on strikk – thank you thank you xx

Oh, and my two cents: scrap the blue and go grey. That would be about hair rinses too.

Wow! Bookhou, why have I not heard of these people?
Hanna and Daniel
Oh, what a beautiful tapestry!
