Borrowed Spoons - new in Etsy

It all started with Jasper Morrison's Book of Spoons. It inspired me to take some pics of my spoons, and these caused cutlery drawers to start rattling all over the world.

First, Lisa sent me a pic of her spoons...

Then Lena took pics of hers...
And Kelly did too.

I was pretty over the spoon about all this, and when my blog friends kindly let me use their spoon pics as inspiration along with my own, the happy result was Borrowed Spoons - a teatowel design in three cutlery-hued colourways. It's in my Etsy shop today.

And in stainless steel too:

And because everyone was so nice about sharing, and because spoons are used for feeding, I'm pledging a dollar from each online sale of Borrowed Spoons to the Peninsula Schools Feeding Association, which provides 140 000 little kids with a nice hot meal at school every day.

So I guess I should say thanks to Mr Morrison for starting it all. Thanks, Jasper!

Summer Weeds on Etsy

I have to rush to my nephew's talent show, so just a quick heads up to tell you that I have new teatowels in my Etsy shop.

Check 'em out - Summer Weeds in burnt butter...

...and in smoke blue.

Three Sisters - new on Etsy

Newsflash! There's a new baby tshirt in my Etsy shop today.
This one is called Three Sisters.

The design was inspired by the blank Matryoshka dolls sent me by Tiel that I'm too scared to paint yet.

New on Etsy - Tomato Eep!

Thanks to a request for a custom order from one of my shoppers, I've made 20 Eep! teatowels in a vibrant tomato red. Find them in my Etsy shop today.

(I'm not sure why, but reds always come out wierdly onscreen. Just to let you know, the real thing is not blotchy in the least.)

Waiting

The original of this cut paper work was bought by a guy in Joburg. I'll be making a small edition of screenprints in scarlet, using the same image.

It's called Waiting.

I was supposed to screenprinting with my helpful printer this afternoon, but it seems it's not going to happen today after all.

This little image is living up to its title then...

New fabric - eep!

Why did I spend the whole weekend feeling like hugging myself? Well, on Friday I fetched my new screenprinted design from Toby, my wonderful printer, of course!

Ta-da! Soon to be cushion covers and teatowels in my Etsy shop!

I was reading about Lucienne Day recently, and how she didn't have her textile designs in her own home, because she'd overanalyse them, noticing their faults out of the corner of her eye while doing the crossword puzzle.

Apart the crossword puzzles part (which I made up anyway), I can quite relate to Mrs Day. I'm usually pretty aware of what I don't like about the things I've made, but this design, while I'm sure it's far from perfect, I'm just in love! So it's living with us already.

Happy Easter

Yesterday, after a long break from screenprinting (too many bad prints - dodgy medium, I think), I finally plucked up my courage and made some new prints. I'll post the pics next week some time.

In the meantime, some old work.
I printed these chicks ages ago, using cut paper stencils, and they seemed like just the thing to post before the Easter Bunny comes hopping.

Have a happy Easter, everyone. I really need this long weekend.

PS: Some good shows on in Cape Town at the moment. Go see Julia Rosa Clark's Hypocrite's Lament at Joao Ferreira, and also Tamlin Blake's Birthright at the Bell Roberts. Tamlin's beaded Nguni hide is really something quite extraordinary.

New etsy listings

NOTE: I'm currently experiencing temporary difficulties with accepting payments. Nobody's bought anything yet, but please don't until my shop says you can! Sorry 'bout this.

I'm listing up a storm in my etsy shop at the moment!

Here's a sweet birdie magnet...

... and some more baby shirts.

Happy weekend, everyone! And thanks so much for all the kind comments and encouragement.

Tshirts on Etsy

I've got some of my baby tshirts for sale in my Etsy shop today.

Bingo!

I knew my archive couldn't have run totally dry!

I sold this cushion from the HandMade Now! stall at the Neighbour Goods Market a few months ago.

I cut paper stencils and silkscreened the colours, and stitched the stems and outlines with my sewing machine.

I want to make more of these!

New Tshirts

Jesse and I did our monthly stint at the Neighbour Goods Market at the Old Biscuit Mill in Salt River last weekend. I had a couple of new baby tshirt designs for sale.

The little brown monkey design very nearly sold out, which was fantastic, but I was surprised that the little flowers didn't sell particularly well. We'll see what happens next time.

Buck

I've silkscreened this design onto a cushion, and it looks very pretty.

Letraset chairs

I found wonderful illustrations of chairs in an old Letraset book borrowed from Jesse. First I traced the image with carbon paper onto fabric, then screenprinted the colour sections, and machine-stitched the rest.

I made lots of others in this style, showing different chairs, but seem to have neglected to photograph them. Life pre-blog, eh?

Magnetic weekend

I made a couple of magnets this weekend. The cute little girl magnet holding up my yoga schedule is not mine but isn't she just adorable? Found at Journey on Long Street.

This one I'm in love with. I stuck cork paper (thanks, Jesse) to an adhesive-backed magnetic sheet and cut through with my NT cutter. The night bird lives on...
